Trying to balance “work” and “life” is completely futile- they are the same thing. Separating work from life is like separating your head from your body, so why bother?
The real key is to cultivate strong self-care for non-work hours. If you urgently need to take a break, walk around, have a snack, use the restroom, etc, just go with your gut (literally). Lauren and I have made it a priority to take care of ourselves as we build out Mighty Talent Group because right now, we are the product.
How do we take care of the “product”? I take walks throughout the day and eat a plant-based diet, while Lauren gets to the gym before the sun rises and eats mainly a ketogenic diet. There’s no right way to care for yourself, but there’s nobody that can do it except for you.
Self-care ideas for the busy bee:
-
3 minute dance party! – put on your favorite song, get up from your chair, and dance like nobody’s watching!
-
Schedule yourself for ten minutes of yoga in the break room/living room (if you work from home). Hint: google “10 minute yoga” routines on YouTube – there are so many to choose from!
-
Take the stairs instead of the elevator if you can and get outside for some fresh air
-
Keep a stash of “healthy snacks” at your desk and avoid stashing sugary treats:
-
Nuts
-
Berries
-
Fruit/ Veggies
-
-
Take a break and read or listen to a book or non-work related podcast
-
Set boundaries with your social media – only check it during breaks or lunch that have designated start and stop times. Nothing is going to happen on social media that can’t wait- having healthy boundaries can make a big difference in your work day productivity.
-
Stay firm on time boundaries- make a commitment to yourself to stop checking work emails after a specific time each day. A good rule of thumb can be to shut it down at dinner time and to not return to it until after breakfast in the morning.
These are just a few ideas to help keep your mind, body, and spirit energized and fulfilled throughout each day. How do you keep “you” running smoothly?
